Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Program

Empowering Understanding and Confidence in Sexuality and Relationships

At WHR Allied Health, we recognise that sexuality and relationships are integral parts of life. Our Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Program is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to navigate these aspects safely and confidently. Developed by our experienced team, the program offers education on anatomy, consent, relationships, and more, all from an occupational therapy perspective.

Delivered over eight weeks or as an intensive course, the program includes guest speakers and covers topics such as consent, rights, contraception, online safety, and sexual health. We also encourage parents and carers to attend a pre-program session to better support their loved ones. Whether you’re seeking to enhance your understanding or support someone else’s journey, our Sex Group program offers a respectful and informative environment to learn and grow.

About the Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Program

WHR has long had a passion for promoting and supporting our clients to develop and maintain positive, healthy sex lives. We recognise all people as sexual beings and endeavour to educate and support others to enable this to be a positive experience.

The groups have been designed and developed based on our team’s own professional experience and training to assist individuals in understanding sex, sexuality and relationships from an occupational therapy perspective. The groups include anatomical and social education, with each session able to be flexible enough to meet the participants’ needs in that group.

Our goals are to:

  • Provide a comfortable learning space to improve participants’ safety when meeting new people and developing relationships (sexual or not).
  • To optimise sexual expression and experience and promote healthy positive sex lives.
  • To improve understanding around each individual having things they like/dislike in regard to sex & sexuality.
  • Support parents and carers to be comfortable talking about sex and sexuality.

The group can be delivered over an eight-week program or over a short intensive course. Each session will cover a new topic guided by the occupational therapist. Throughout the eight weeks, we will also have guest speakers presenting on their areas of expertise. i.e., a sexual health nurse.

Whilst not compulsory, we strongly encourage parents/carers to attend a pre-program session where we will outline the course content week by week and enable you to ask questions of our facilitators.

Topics covered will include:

Understanding Relationships

Exploring the different kinds of relationships, and what makes a good friend or partner. (Different types of relationships · Qualities of a friend vs partner · Expectation vs reality · Gender diverse relationships)

Rights, respect & safety

Knowing your rights, understanding consent, and recognising who you can turn to for support. (Rights · Consent · Abuse · Who you can contact · Peer pressure)

Dating & Connection

From first dates to online dating — building confidence and staying safe along the way. (Examples of dates · Online dating · Arousal)

Staying safe online

Navigating the internet, personal information, and screen media safely and confidently. (Internet safety · Providing personal information · Porn/movies)

Bodies & sexual health

Understanding anatomy, pleasure, and how our bodies work — in a safe, judgement-free space. (Basic anatomy · Types of sex · Pleasure parts · Orgasms · Masturbation · Self checks)

Sexual & reproductive health

The practical health side — contraception, pregnancy, and looking after your wellbeing. (Contraception · Conception/Pregnancy · STIs · Sexual dysfunction)
